An ode to camping

I’ve been camping since I was a kid. I’ve gone every year for as long as I can remember. So when people tell me that they’ve never been camping, I just can’t understand.

You’ve never slept under the stars? You’ve never watched the flames around a campfire until the wee hours of the morning? Caught a fish and cooked it for dinner, showered in the lake and peed in a hole?

Sorry, I was getting a little carried away. Hehe. There are certainly less glamorous aspects of camping, but who cares? Humans who have inhabited this earth for 2,000 years didn’t sleep in air conditioned houses and eat microwaved food. They embraced nature and shared it with their closest friends and family. That is what camping is all about.

It’s the cheapest way to have the most fun with those you love. If you have children, they will still do all the annoying things they do at home. So don’t get any fantasies that anything like that will change. But if they run around all day with their friends, chances are they will crash hard and sleep straight until morning. Whisky works too, hehe.

In the next few weeks, I’m going to show you some of my favorite ways to camp. Everything from the cheapest places to go, or the most luxurious. The best eats with no equipment, light weight equipment, or the stuff that’ll be around for your grandchildren (cast iron!). I’ll show you the best ways to sleep and how to stay comfortable in all weather.

Foodierachel is going camping y’all!
