Jack-O-Lanterns

This year I thought I would share some pumpkin carvings from the last few years. This is nothing compared to the Food Network competitions, but I’d like to say they aren’t half bad :)

You can tell when I started having kids and all of the sudden the themes changed a bit.

Halloween 2006 was Johnny Deep. I carved this while camping at Petit Jean State Park, and we got to admire this handsome pirate around the campfire. I know Justin enjoyed it the most…..

And just to show the idea I was going for, here is a picture for reference. (Just in case you forgot? yeah right….)

No, no, no……its because too many people thought this pumpkin was supposed to be Jesus. Which would have been fine. Anyone ever seen a Jesus jack-o-lantern on halloween??? Didn’t think so….. I promise I’m going somewhere with this! Keep reading.

2007 I was busy trying to NOT have a nervous breakdown with a colicky baby. So things higher than sleep on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs went by the wayside.

Life was much better by 2008 when we re-visited seasonal activities. Joslyn was obsessed, so went for the obvious choice, Elmo!

2009 was Minnie Mouse

and this year was Sponge Bob.

You know speaking of Jesus….. and pumpkins…. Joslyn brought home a bag of pumpkin seeds with a little saying in her papers from church.

Its funny how something so simple can touch your heart and remind you of what’s really important.

This is what it said:

What is it like to be a Christian? It is like being a pumpkin.
God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you.
Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc.,
and then He carves you a new smiling face and
puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.
