The one thing I really enjoy about this little blog is having an archive from my own life. I never realized how much I did differently (and the same) every year.
We started a new tradition last night: seafood feast to bring in the new year! We had king crab and PW’s garlic orange shrimp.
I’ve never splurged on king crab before. In fact, Justin surprised me with it. I asked him to drop by the fish market on his way home from work. I asked him to bring home 2 crab claws.
This is what he brought me:
The reason I’m holding it funny is because it was COLD! My hands were freezing and I was afraid frost bite was about to set in. We’ve never eaten so much crab! It was wonderful. Here’s an idea of how big the legs were:
These two were enough to feed 4 or 5 people! Definitely a tradition worth keeping around….
So here’s my resolutions for 2010:
1. Spend more time playing and less time cleaning. Justin already told me that this one scares him
2. Lower Justin’s cholesterol
3. Drink better coffee
4. Go on a trip, no matter how small.
5. Grow a kick-butt garden.
6. Do the “Freebie” post that I’ve been planning for 2 years.
So those are do-able. Why post resolutions that aren’t do-able? I’d hate to set myself up for failure publicly. How embarrasing!
Just kidding. I wouldn’t be embarrassed at all. So, I guess its time to test my scores on last years resolutions. This might be scary…
1. Play with Joslyn all the time. Every chance I get. Laundry= play time. Dinner = play time. Driving = play time. Here’s one that always needs improvement. This is why it’s a repeat on my list for this year.
2. Be in control of what goes into my body. I want to limit chemicals, sugars, and junk. Apart from the holiday parties and the part about sugar, I’d say I kicked butt in this category.
3. Be in control of what comes out of my mouth. I need this for myself as much as I need it for the little ears that are listening. On a scale of 1-10, I rate myself at about a 6. Definite need to improve still.
4. Bake bread. A lot. Fail, miserably. Again. I did, however, buy a bread share at our CSA so I can still enjoy fresh bread every week, its just handmade by someone else J
5. Send cards for all occasions. You can go ahead and call me Nancy. I’m not sure I can beat her caliber of cards, but I’d like to take a stab at it. To let everyone know I’m thinking about them on their special occasions. Another fail. Nancy, I don’t know how you do it!
6. Get Joslyn’s hair cut. Seriously, its down past her nose. I did get her hair cut shortly after this post. But I continued to let it get way to long before the next trim. I’d say it got cut 3 or 4 times this last year. Another fail.
7. Make perfect Orange Beef. I’ve been trying this one for months and I have yet to find the right combination. Besides, I can’t afford to eat at Chinese 5-spice every night. One step closer and we’ll get this one! I finally perfected a sesame chicken, and after a little tweaking, I think we’ll get there. Finding the right cut of beef- that’ll be the kicker!
8. Get back into the pool. Randi and Ashley prepare to get annoyed at the amount of time I want to swim. And prepare to see my hind end shrink like you’ve never seen. Another fail. I found out I was pregnant shortly after the new year and took a workout strike until now. Still on strike!
