Food Inc. report

Justin and I spent a night out last night at the Moxie. We watched a new documentary called Food Inc. I have been curious about this movie and paired with my $3 off coupon, who could resist?

The film is about where our food comes from. I pondered whether I really wanted to know this information, and being I do live in the midwest where I “know a farmer” I decided this may be what pushes us over the edge to, lets say… further peruse our business relationship with “our” farmer.

And the veil has been lifted.

Okay, so I know there is corruption in the meat industry. Haven’t we been told this for a few years now? But I wasn’t sure just how bad it was.

I won’t go into the details because for 1. I’m not the expert, and 2. you didn’t come here to loose your appetite, did you? I’ll just give a summary for those of you who are curious.

I’ve never been a preacher on animal cruelty and mistreatment, but come on……some of the things they are doing to our food is blatantly wrong. AND we are being prevented from seeing this by all sorts of laws and monetary confinements.

But it doesn’t look so good on the veggie planes either. Corn and soy products are just as bad. And do you know what food products in your pantry contain corn and soy? Almost ALL of them.

It just makes me want to make everything from scratch. Luckily, I enjoy this challenge anyway, but I’ve just been challenged a bit more than usual.

If you’re curious what the heck I’m talking about, you should go watch this film. You know, I don’t get all hot and bothered with films like this. Usually these types have a bunch of bad research- in fact research that has clear bias flaus irks me like no other.

Sure, there are people “selling” things, but for the most part they are selling local food that is grown and butchered in a normal way that you would expect your food to be prepared. Thats it. Just give us good wholesome food that hasn’t been tainted with chemicals, growth hormones, unnessary preservatives and hidden agendas.

AND if you were wondering if I was feeding all this to my toddler, the answer is yes! She should expect foods that are healthy and untainted. Does this mean I’ll never buy her a happy meal ever again? The jury is still out, but I didn’t rush out today to buy her one, that’s for sure.

In fact, if you plan to see this movie before it leaves the Moxie, let me know- I have a few coupons left.
