I’m sure you’re all probably sick of hearing about all my weird family traditions. No, you like them? You want more? (or are you just being nice?)
Okay, okay I’ll tell you. Lets start with Christmas and work backward.
Every year since Justin and I have been married, my Dad has had a beautiful Christmas arrangement sent to my house. It is one that lasts all month long, smells great, and puts all my wanna-be centerpieces to shame. He gets them from Fae’s flowers.
There are three candles representing the three members of our family. If you want to get your sweetie one, I’m sure you could just call up Fae and tell her you want the Sam Christmas special.
Next up is the reindeer food. This is a favorite kiddo gift of mine.
The EASIEST Christmas snack ever (not for humans though). This is a mixture of old fashioned oats and glitter. There are lots of recipes out there, but I like this one. The idea is you sprinkle the reindeer food on the lawn on Christmas Eve, then in the morning its all gone! (okay, don’t sprinkle too much or else the grass, gravity and any critters out that night will have a hard time making it disappear)
Here’s my poem that gets attached to each bag of reindeer food:
Be sure to take this magic food and sprinkle on the lawn.
On Christmas, Santa’s reindeer travel miles before the dawn.
The smell of oats and glitter path will guide them on their way.
And you’ll wake up to Santa’s gifts next morn on Christmas day!
And last but especially not least is a Thanksgiving tradition that I will remember for the rest of my life: the flaming turkey. Usually all the “bountiful harvest” side dishes are out on the table, and everyone’s waiting for the bird. (No, not Joslyn’s bird I showed you all a few days ago)
And Grandma and Grandpa come out like this:
Gotta love it, every year. (Nice photo Jer) Then after the turkey is carved we all take corn kernels to signify our thanks. Then we go around the room and tell everyone how thankful we are. THEN we pray and eat. The suspense kills me every year.
