Confession: I’ve been bad. very very bad. Like the worst food blogger. ever. I’ve been cooking, and eating….cooking, and eating…..going to new restaurants without my camera, sampling new food…..and not sharing ANY of it with you.
Wow, do we have a lot to catch up on!
I have to fill you in. Well you see, I’ve been sort of obsessed with something. Another food blogger. I run across LOTS of food blogs that I never go back to, but this one? I leave hungry every time. And she’s a country chick from Tulsa who does lots of things the “pioneer way”. And I like her SO much that I can’t keep her a secret any longer!
She’s Pioneer Woman cooks! Go check it out, one of the best food blogs I’ve seen in a while. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it! (The two side dishes are from her blog)
Lets start with last night as it is so clear in my memory. In truth, it will be a long while until I forget about this meal.
The onion straws: by far the star of the meal. Is it good or bad when the star is a side dish? Regardless, I didn’t know I was capable of making SUCH STINKIN GOOD onion straws. The recipe came from Pioneer Woman, and she’s got the whole process nicely mapped out. So go here for the recipe and instructions. I will make these again and again.
Joslyn even ate them, check it out! I don’t know many 1 year olds who will eat onions. But mine will!
The steaks: Harter House 8oz filet (on sale this week!) Cooked by the man of the house out on the Weber. Check out the perfect grill marks! Oh, and the juice you see is NOT butter. We didn’t even need butter for this meal. These steaks were so juicy and tender all on their own.
The taters: Mini Yukon golds also from Pioneer Woman. Delicious. Soft and crunchy, salty and herby. Yes herby, I’m sure its a word.
I know I’m probably going to pay for this meal either in my jeans or my coronary arteries, but it was SO good that I really don’t care. Isn’t it just worth it sometimes?
