Fish tacos for the working family

The other night Justin and I went to try out Houlihans. Its a new restaurant on the north side (hard to believe, right?) at the corner of Glenstone and Kearney inside the hotel- what’s it called now? You know the one.

Its sort of like a mod version of J.Bucks, or a fancier Ruby’s. Main courses range from $10-25, and they have mini desserts for $2.50! Who is gonna resist creme brulee at that price?

Overall our experience was a little strange. You know, that new restaurant feeling where everyone is new and no one knows what’s going on quite yet? But on a positive note, the food was pretty good!

Justin had chicken fetuccini alfredo and I had fish tacos. Both were great, including Justin’s french onion soup (my favorite). But you know, my fish tacos were nothing but two fish sticks topped with shreds of napa cabbage and tomatoes wrapped in a flour tortilla. Oh, there was chipotle mayo.

And the whole time I’m thinking to myself, why haven’t I thought of this?! Its a friggin fish stick for heavens sake.

So this dish was re-created at home with iceberg lettuce (because the napa was weird looking), garden tomatoes, cheese and homemade tartar sauce. (You know, just mix together mayo and relish). And it was amazingly great! I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to make the chipotle mayo, but I just can’t handle that kind of heat everyday.

So there you have it, restaurant food turned into a quick and easy meal at home. And con your family into eating fish! I promise you won’t be dissapointed.
