This past week the three of us went on a little trip up to St. Louis. We did lots of shopping, went to the zoo and managed to sneak in some culinary adventures as well.
We hit all the usual spots, but I just really wanted to…well…..go grocery shopping!
So we explored Trader Joe’s and the Whole Foods Market. If you’ve never been, you really should. They are full of local produce, fresh baked bread, dozens of cheeses, and specialty diet foods (like lactose and gluten free).
I got lots of yummy stuff.
Mostly cheese, organic toddler food (teething biscuits), fresh roasted coffee and a few other rad odds and ends. Oh yeah- I got a Seeduction bread and Cranberry walnut bread as recommended by my Aunt Donna- both were wonderful! Here’s a picture of the olive bar and 1/4 of the cheese section- yeah, its THAT big!

And the zoo…… It was lightly raining the entire time we were there, which was both a nuisance and a blessing. We pretty much had the whole zoo to ourselves and the cool weather had all the animals up and running around. Here’s Joslyn and I waiting for our turn on the carousel.
Then we went to the Cotton Babies store and I got some discounted stuff they don’t list on their website. It was nice to touch and feel all of their products. I just struggle with spending a lot of money on something that I haven’t touched and held- ya know?
That evening we met some of my family at the Elephant Bar just next door to the West County Mall. (Yes, after the rain and no time to freshen up) However, it was SO nice to see everyone! We enjoyed it there (albeit I was a little stressed because Joslyn was cutting a new tooth and screaming bloody murder most of dinner). The food was good and not overpriced- and they had an Asian section on the menu- cha ching!
We closed the trip with breakfast a Kayak’s coffee. We ate at a bar facing a busy street. I had their house blend which was a smooth yet full bodied coffee. And breakfast was a cowboy omelet (which turned out to be not an omelet at all) with bacon, red onion and barbecue sauce all wrapped up in a grilled tortilla. YUM!
Oh, did I mention that I found some deals at the mall too? How could I have forgotten THAT part of the trip?
Me: Justin, do you realize how much money I’m saving you?!
Justin: GUH!
