Oreo Truffles

Justin has been asking for me to make Oreo Truffles since last Christmas. Okay, okay…

These truffles (some people call them bon bons) have been a hit every time I’ve made them. They take a little while to put together, but they require minimal ingredients and skill.

Begin by crushing an entire bag of Oreos. It works best to use regular Oreos, being double stuff gets too sticky. You could put this through a food processer, which would be really easy. I just used a potato masher and it worked fine…with a little muscle. Then add one 8oz. package of cream cheese. Soften it in the microwave a little. Mix it all until it looks like this:

Now you may want to let it sit in the freezer for a few minutes or the refrigerator for a while to harden. The harder it is, the easier it is to roll, and the less sticky too. Roll it into small balls and put on cookie tray lines with wax paper. (The cookie tray is just to be able to move it back into the refrigerator again)

While the balls are hardening again, melt 6-8 chunks of bark chocolate. Use the directions on the bag for melting. Most can be done in the microwave. I personally think white chocolate tastes best with these, but the dark filling shows through and doesn’t look as nice. So, I usually dip in milk chocolate and drizzle white chocolate over the tops.

Dip balls into chocolate, completely cover the ball, and place on wax paper. Do your drizzle thing with white or dark chocolate. Then place back in the fridge to harden.
